Midea Group, one of the world’s largest home appliances manufacturers and leader in global air-treatment solutions, held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais.

The initiative is an important part of the Midea Group’s global expansion, which foresees high investments in strategic markets like Brazil - considered one of the world’s largest white goods markets and the largest in Latin America.

"Our goal is to be among the three main players in the market within four years, and the opening of our new factory here in Brazil provides the necessary competitiveness." explains Felipe Costa, CEO of Midea Carrier Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

Through its Joint Venture with Carrier, Midea Group already has a stake in two factories in Brazil - one in Manaus/AM, where residential air-conditioners and microwaves are produced, and another in Canoas/RS, where commercial air-conditioning systems are produced.

With an investment of approximately R$600 million (USD122million), the new 73,000 sqm plant is estimated to produce 1.3 million products per year and generate 500 direct and another 200 indirect jobs.

The inauguration is scheduled for July 2024, when production of the first 2-Door Frost-Free refrigerators will begin, which will be in shops in the third quarter.
