MideaGroup in COVID-19

Following the global outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, Midea Group has stepped up its effort to lend support in fighting the pneumonia-like illness in China. The company is working closely with local government bodies and medical authorities to curb the spread of this deadly epidemic. To that end, the company has launched emergency rescue operations in affected cities such as Wuhan through the donations of home appliances and medical supplies and pledged donations to support relief efforts.

Logistical Support For Speciality Field Hospitals

On 25th January, the company donated necessary home appliances such as home air conditioners, central air conditioners, water heaters, water dispensers, washing machines and dryers to the Wuhan Government in support of their construction of two hospitals -  Huoshenshan Hospital and Leishanshan Hospital – in response to the virus outbreak.

Apart from these hospitals in Wuhan, the company also dispatched and installed more than 50 sets of air conditioners to the First People's Hospital, and it also agreed to provide all home appliances for the expansion of the Fourth People’s Hospital in Foshan.

At the same time, the company has launched a global procurement platform to leverage its overseas channels in procuring additional medical supplies for individuals and communities fighting against this virus. Furthermore, Midea Group's Annto Logistics has called upon its business partners to transport essential donated materials to Wuhan until the epidemic is under control. As of 2nd February, the company has donated approximately 2,852 electric heaters to 73 hospitals, including Hubei Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital, through Annto Logistics.

Pledging Monetary Support

On 26th January, the company donated RMB $100 million to the Hubei epidemic area through the Red Cross Society of Hubei Province, designated for procurement of emergency medical supplies.

Providing Medical Supplies For Those In Need

On 31st January, the company donated 500,000 and 200,000 medical masks to the Guangdong Red Cross and Foshan City respectively. In Shunde District, where the company is headquartered, it donated 160,000 N95 masks, 3000 sets of protective clothing and 1,500 pairs of safety goggles, to help alleviate the local shortage of medical equipment supplies. Over the Lunar New Year holidays, the company went on to procure another 4.5 million medical masks (including N95 type), 38,974 sets of protective clothing and other related medical equipment from its overseas branches and this shipment is expected to be delivered to China soon.

Putting Employees’ Health First

In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our frontline staffs (i.e. installation and logistics staff, factory workers), Midea has urgently purchased 50,000 protective masks for its employees in Hubei. Given how quickly the situation is evolving, the company will pay close attention to its front-line employees and do all it can to provide support for these selfless heroes.

As a company incorporated in Guangdong, there is no doubt that Midea Group will devote all of its available resources and support to the nation and its people in the fight against this novel coronavirus outbreak. The company will continue to adopt an open communication channel with local government bodies and authorities to keep abreast of the situation and to be ready to act when needed. The company would like to take this opportunity to thank all its front-line colleagues, the country’s medical and healthcare staff and is confident that together, we can put an end to this deadly epidemic.
